Build a House According to Islamic Concepts

Build a House According to Islamic Concepts

Owning a home is a dream for everyone and of course for every married couple. The house is a gathering place for all family members and a place to share experiences, knowledge and a place to share love between all family members. There are also several meanings of the house itself.

The house is a building that has the function of living and gathering a family. The house is also a place where all family members live and carry out activities that become their daily routine. There is also a definition of a house as the heart of life which should be a source of peace, inspiration and energy for the owner.

Even though Rasulullah SAW himself did not provide examples in designing houses, from the existing traditions, this should be used as a reference or guidance for Muslims in making and designing a house. Among the things to watch out for are,

1. It is advisable for a Muslim to find a house or build a house close to the Mosque.

This is intended to make it easier for him to perform congregational prayers and other worship at the mosque. Although the main thing is to be away from the mosque, because every step will be counted as a reward. But, considering the weak faith of Muslims and the influence of the environment, which has a lot of immorality nowadays, being close to a mosque is more important to protect oneself and one’s faith.

2. Looking for a house or building a house that is far from immoral environments and bad neighbors.

An environment that is close to disobedience or bad neighbors has a tremendous influence on a family. As a long story, namely the story of the journey of repentance of someone who has killed 100 people, it is stated,

Meaning, “You go to a country like this and like this (which is attributed to the country), because in fact there are people who worship Allah Ta’ala, worship with them and do not return to your country, because your country is an ugly country. (many disobedience).” (HR. Muttafaqun ‘alaih).

3. Pay attention to things that support health in a house.

Among them by avoiding building houses in dirty places, such as near garbage dumps, near stagnant water, and so on. Because cleanliness and holiness are part of faith, it is obligatory for a Muslim to pay attention to the cleanliness and sanctity of the place where he lives, his environment, and himself, because the environment also shows the personality of the occupants.

As with food, the environment can affect human nature, where it is prescribed not to eat the meat of animals whose habit of eating feces before being locked up or quarantined for three days or more, or we are forbidden to eat animals with fangs because we are afraid that the nature of these animals will be imitated. by the eater, because the flesh that grows on humans is from the animal earlier.

Rasulullah SAW said,

وَالْفَخْرُ وَالْخُيَلَاءُ فِي أَصْحَابِ الْإِبِلِ وَالسَّكِينَةُ وَالْوَقَارُ فِي أَهْلِ الْغَنَمِ

Meaning, “Arrogance and arrogance are in the camel herder, calmness and authority are in the goat herder.” (HR. Muslim)

In this Hadith it gives the advantage that togetherness will influence each other like a camel herder who is with him every day, so he is arrogant and stubborn and haughty like the condition of camels looking for food on the ends of trees. Likewise with the goat herder, the calmness of the goat affects the shepherd without shouting, unlike the camel herder.

Another thing that supports the health of a house is paying attention to the physical appearance of the house, including making the house fresh by installing windows, ventilation holes, and a place for sunlight to enter the house for freshness and air circulation.

4. Keep away from things that associate partners with Allah.

Indeed, some Indonesian people still believe in good days for moving house based on Primbon (reference books on daily life that have no basis in Islam, ed). For example, moving on Friday Kliwon is not good. In fact, Friday is a good day according to Islam. There are no bad days. Therefore, don’t involve things like this when choosing a house.

Apart from that, there is also a belief that in choosing a house one must pay attention to Feng Shui. Both in terms of location, the direction facing the house, to the placement of the furniture. In fact, as long as the house can cover the private parts of its inhabitants, the toilet does not face or turn its back to the qibla, and it is obtained from lawful assets, God willing, the house will be good. We don’t need and shouldn’t be guided by a compass or ancient Chinese topography for which there is no proof.

This false belief was developed by demons whose job it is to deceive people and whisper evil beliefs in people’s hearts. It’s just that they are often packaged with different names and terms. Sometimes the belief in shirk is seen as parental advice, so that if it is not believed it will cause certain disasters. If there are still parents who believe this, then we can explain it carefully.

5. Home is honor and secret

So don’t make a house with lots of translucent glass to allow outsiders to see into our house. This is to keep our family secrets and genitals.

6. Separate boys and girls rooms.

Also if at any time there are guests who want to spend the night, we can help provide a room. However, the guest room should be separated from the family room so that guests cannot see the family room freely.

7. Toilets or toilets should not face or turn away from the Qibla.

“Because there is a ban Rasulullah SAW. Even though there is a mistake, if it is covered with a building then it is permissible. but for caution it is better to face the other way.

8. Invite the Angel of Mercy

After choosing or building a house, make sure the Angel of Mercy is willing to enter our house. How to? Apart from keeping Islamic values always present in our activities, don’t keep dogs and don’t place paintings and statues that resemble animate creatures. This is in accordance with the hadith of Rasulullah SAW, “The Angel of Mercy will not enter a house where there are dogs and pictures in it.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)

Rasulullah SAW confirmed this when he came home from traveling, then found in the middle of the house there was a picture curtain. He called his wife, Aisyah radhiallahu ‘anha and said, “Hi Aisyah! As harsh as human punishment on the Day of Judgment is that which rivals Allah’s creation.” (Hadith narrated by Bukhari and Muslim). So Aisyah radhiallahu ‘anha immediately cut the curtain and made it into a pillow.”

That is the important thing in building a house according to the Islamic concept. May Allah always bless our house.
